Junior Road Safety Officers

One of our school values is courage: we support our children to develop the courage needed to take a stand on matters that are important to them. Our JRSOs are passionate about keeping our children safe on the roads both outside the school and when they are out and about.

The JRSOs have achieved the Gold JRSO Award in three of the last four years. This is in recognition of the work they have done to improve safety and make a difference in the village of Fressingfield.

Each year they organise the Be Bright Be Seen event before the nights draw in over winter. They also help organise Walk to School Week to promote healthier life choices.

The JRSOs have also collaborated with our local Police Service to monitor the speed of cars driving through the village, following which, they organised a road safety poster competition and the winning entries were displayed around the village to remind drivers to drive safely.

The JRSOs are proud of the yellow markings outside the school. Having noticed parents parking on the turning circle – a space needed in the event of an emergency - they ran a campaign to encourage parents to park in the Baptist Chapel car park. They also organised a car wash to raise the money to pay for new safety markings at the front of the school and wrote to the Parish Council to ask for their support. Having raised the money, they even helped paint the markings with the help of the road crew. This is an excellent example of the way the school supports children to make meaningful changes to improve their school. Well done JRSOs!
