We are the Regional Winners of the Fonetti Summer Read-Aloud Challenge!

Fressingfield Primary School pupils celebrate regional win at national Summer Read-Aloud Challenge awards.

Two pupils from Fressingfield Primary School have travelled to London to collect the East of England Regional Winners trophy at the national Fonetti Summer Read-Aloud Challenge awards ceremony, hosted at Amazon’s UK headquarters.

The pupils, Finley and Oliver, were selected to represent their school after Fressingfield Primary was named regional winner for the East of England. They received the trophy on behalf of the school during the ceremony, where it was presented by Clare Balding, broadcaster, journalist and ambassador for the summer reading challenge. Finley and Oliver joined with winners from 10 regions across the United Kingdom for a day of celebration, congratulations and an exciting tour of Amazon HQ.

The achievement follows an outstanding summer of reading for pupils at the school. Eleven children from Fressingfield Primary finished in the top 100 readers across East Anglia, with many children reading more than 50 books and the winner – Finley – reading 114 books in total!

The summer reading challenge encourages children to continue reading for pleasure during the school holidays, helping to support literacy, confidence and a lifelong love of books. The challenge takes place using the Fonetti Read-Aloud App, which listens as the children read, supporting with words as necessary. This year’s results place Fressingfield Primary among the most engaged schools in the country.

Mr Leicester, Head of School at Fressingfield Primary School, said:
“We are incredibly proud of all our pupils who took part in the summer reading challenge, and especially Finley and Oliver who represented the school so well in London. This award reflects the enthusiasm our children have for reading and the strong support they receive from families and staff. Seeing our pupils recognised at a regional level is a wonderful moment for the whole school community.”

Pictures from the awards ceremony show the pupils proudly collecting the regional winners trophy alongside Clare Balding at Amazon’s London offices.
