Where the Forest Once Stood

Julie Hare launches Poetry Week at Fressingfield Primary School

Our first week back at school got off to a flying start as we were joined by Julie Hare, our very own parent poet and author of Where the Forest Once Stood, to launch Poetry Week. Julie led us in a fantastic, interactive assembly which the children found really engaging. Julie’s poems, which all have an environmental message, are fun and inspiring and the children really loved them. We were particularly impressed when Julie was joined by Darlie to read a reverse poem, where the message reading from top to bottom is completely transformed when reading from bottom to top.

Following the assembly, the children have been exploring her poems in more depth and using them as the basis for their own poems, which we will be sharing in an earlier assembly (2.30pm) on Friday afternoon. We hope you are able to join us.

To tickle your tastebuds, here is a video of Isaac and Lenny performing a narrative poem, Cub. The children in Year 6 are currently writing narrative poems of their own, based on the plight of polar bears.

Julie’s books are available to buy, whilst stocks last, from the school office at £7.99 each. Julie has kindly said that £1 from each sale will go towards the school library.
