Y6 Join the Cruicial Crew

On Tuesday, the children in Year 6 attended the Crucial Crew event at The Mix in Stowmarket.
Over the course of two busy hours, they took part in seven workshops covering important issues they may encounter as they grow older. Sessions included the importance of staying active, led by the Army; a discussion about knife crime from the Youth Service Team; presentations on drugs and alcohol and online safety; a CPR workshop delivered by the Air Ambulance; and a session on VAWG (Violence Against Women and Girls).
The workshops were well structured and designed to communicate key messages in a memorable way. When asked about the sessions afterwards, the children were able to recall and explain the main points from each one. I was particularly pleased to see the VAWG workshop included this year, as it addresses an issue that has a significant impact on young people. The children were encouraged to identify both red flags and green flags in relationships, helping them to recognise healthy behaviours as well as warning signs of control or abuse.
It was a thought-provoking and valuable afternoon that equipped our Year 6 pupils with important knowledge and practical life skills, helping them feel more informed and prepared for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
